On tap at Taphouse 15, bold 10% ABV Imperial IPA nearly maintains ‘dankest, hoppiest’ boast with its assertive alcohol-burnt hop oiling and resinous pine bittering. But its soft-toned honeyed fruiting, botanical herbage and floral sweetness lighten the mood just enough as tangy mango, tangerine, orange, nectarine, pineapple and grapefruit juicing soothes the clean finish.
Enjoyable moderate-bodied hop-forward pale ale (in a can) spreads floral-perfumed tropical fruiting across grassy hop astringency, sugared cereal graining and baguette-like sourdough breading in efficiently crisp manner. Zesty lemon spritz tingles tangy mango, grapefruit, nectarine, peach, melon, pineapple, melon, papaya and curacao orange illusions as well as mild coconut sweetness.
On tap at Ambulance, wayward 2017 limited edition moderation needs headier Scotch sweetness, smokier peat malting, dewier tobacco roast and tangier citric-licked hop tingle to truly capture attention.

Enlighteningly well-designed witbier places white-peppered Belgian yeast inside a floral-spiced citrus setting. Brisk lemon zest brightens lavender tea-like hibiscus, jasmine and chrysanthemum florality as well as light peppercorn seasoning. Honeyed glaze sweetens pineapple, peach and banana subsidies while latent mandarin orange, curacao orange, yellow grapefruit and pineapple illusions flutter by. A complex wit bettering nearly all competitors.
On tap at Bronx Ale House, mild pinkish red-headed, maroon-bodied wild ale brings dark red wine barrel aging to tart hard-candied fruiting. Vinous Zinfandel-Cabernet sedation guards oaken cherry respite as well as polite lemon-limed cranberry, raspberry and boysenberry flirtation above dewy mineral-watered salting.
“Unique” dry-hopped wild ale loads lactobacillus acidity onto lemon-peeled pineapple, guava, mango, peach and papaya tartness and lightly vinous green grape souring. Musty barnyard leathering, musky sour mash and earthen hops increase dry rusticity.
Silken cola-hued ‘robust jobless recovery’ strong ale lacks expectant full-bodied assertion, but not persuasive character. Ashen piney-hopped nuttiness juxtaposes soft-watered cinnamon-spiced floral-fruited opening. Tangy grapefruit, pineapple, cherry and apricot fruitage revs up juicy bubblegum midst. Earthen red and purple grape esters bring mild bourbon-burgundy-port illusions to the surface by soft evergreen finish of limited ’10 release. On tap at Plank Pizza (2016), dark-roasted mocha nuttiness picked up more pronounced earthen hop-charred bittering and less fruit-spiced tangent.
