EPIC FEST DEVIOUS

Deviously non-conformist ‘fall celebration’ better defined as adjunct red ale rather than marzen-styled castoff. Dewy meadow waft, resinous earthen mouthfeel and honeyed tea tonguing deepen caramelized rye sweetness above tingly ginger-cardamom spicing. Recessive purple grape, orange mist and lemon zest nuances plus tertiary toasted nuttiness nearly confound excessive flavor profile.

HARPOON DOCESNA CZECH HOP HARVEST ALE

Indeterminately chameleonic and stylistically evasive; reminiscent of a fluctuant German altbier. Cereal-grained caramel toasting rides alongside red cherry, orange, and tangerine fruiting as well as drier fig-date nuances. Gnarly citric souring gains ground on ginger ale fizz midway. On tap at Andy’s Corner Bar, dry-wooded lemon-rotted bittering works its way into stylized Czech-like pale malt pungency. Peppery hop prickle, earthen vegetal respite and musty herbal tease subsidize orange-dried green apple piquancy, leaving parched mouthfeel.

WOLTERS FEST-BIER

Strapping bohemian pilsner versatile enough to complement hardiest Octoberfest meal. Pungent skunked malts, reminiscent of numerous Dutch beers, proffers rich grain thrust and creamy caramel cluster above penetrating grassy hop bittering for crisp mineral-watered medium-bodied precision. Amiable corn sugaring contrasts maize dried astringency. A politely defined, well-balanced German.

LEFT HAND OKTOBERFEST MARZEN LAGER

Plain German-styled March-brewed moderate-bodied lager placates bland honey-roasted Vienna malting with recessive barley-toasted cocoa-buttered almond-pecan-chestnut sway. Rankled phenol-hopped vegetal stint submerges orange-oiled grape nut affinity to biscuit-y bottom. Some metallic debris encumbers backend of absolutely directionless mess. Better 2018 version brought sweet Vienna malt relief to brown apple-pear illusions and leafy hop-oiled foliage.

ROGUE MAIERFEST LAGER

Understated moderate-bodied Marzen-styled session beer perfect for lawn mowing. Sugary dough opening and crusty white bread plainness counter softly spiced sour citrus splurge. Sporadic orange, apricot, and fig nuances splash across spritz-y Seltzer fizzing of crisp, clean refreshment, avoiding bland neutrality by a whisker.
