Beer & Ale Rating System

5 – INDISPENSIBLE

Detailed precision brewing and originality undeniable and unspoiled by even one mediocre quality. A brew which retains character from top of the tongue to bottom of the throat. Worth repeated drinking.

4 – EXCELLENT

Top of its class (stout/ porter/ ale/ lager/ pilsner, etc.) Recommended to anyone who enjoys specific ‘type’ of brew. Quality brew which never flags in consistency but may lack only one specific quality under very close scrutiny.

3.5 – VERY GOOD

Remarkable in at least one quality with no negatives against it.

3- GOOD

One which will thrill those who enjoy its specific class but lacks one or more qualities.

2.5 – AVERAGE

Some aesthetic pleasure could be derived by those who aren’t particularly fussy.

2 – FAIR

Distinctions not cost effective.

1 – INTOLERABLE

Very little craftsmanship involved, if any.

0 – DISPOSABLE

Complete trash.
