NEW GLARUS RASPBERRY TART
Truly utopian Framboise-styled fruit ale with deep purple hue, bright magenta head and juicy aperitif design accrues rapturous ripe raspberry resonance. Musty rhubarb-pied red cherry souring, vinous dry-hopped yellow grape tannins, tart berry-cherry pucker and effervescent lemon-limed prickle pick up oak-vat acridity below syrupy raspberry-pureed slurp for uncanny sorbet likeness. 2014 re-tasting: voluminous candied raspberry tartness and soda pop fizzle accrued the same sweet-tart buoyancy.
WILLOUGHBY RAILWAY RAZZ ALE
Pink-magenta head fades as easy flowin’ raspberry nose confirms fizz-hopped berry permanence, mild cherry tartness, and red grape hint. But soft wheat backbone and soapy finish dilute fructose funk.
BREWERY HILL RASPBERRY RED ALE
Just as Brewery Hill’s Cherry Wheat benefits from natural ingredients, this red ale has distinct raspberry tartness and overall fruity essence. It’s kind of creamy and soda-like, keeping the delicate honeyed wheat flavor in check ’til moderate fruit-spiced finish.
OAKEN BARREL RAZZ-WHEAT
Pronounced raspberry waft introduces sagging dry-bodied dusty rose-hued Belgian-styled fruit ale. Muted artificial raspberry flavor barely rises above fizzy nature as perfume-y floral perk, pink grapefruit hint, and rose’ glint fail to overcome minor acidity. Needs better yeast penetration.
