Alcohol-soaked amber retains superb head, bitterly hopped mineral grain authority and rich caramel finish. Cracked wheat, toasted barley, and cereal grain sweetness trumps sugared cocoa-butterscotch illusions. Definitely for strong ale lovers.

HORNPOUT NO LIMIT AMBER ALE
Brewers’ inaugural ’06 offerings were highly carbolic so pour slowly. Dry roasted hops and burnt wood chip slip reminiscent of finer India Pale Ales while grain-toasted caramel malting redolent of classic Bass Pale Ale. Supplemental spruce, beechwood, and dark floral undertones fade to parched oak bark niche, but acrid oxidation yields promiscuous heavy alcohol seepage. Brewery defunct: 2006.

O’DELLS LEVITY AMBER ALE
Tangy peach-quince freshness brightens honeyed cereal malts and grapefruit-embittered floral hops of copper-hazed pearly-headed moderate body. Sour lemon rind seduction and wood-soaked cherry parch encounter earthen mineral grains at cracked wheat spine. But abrupt astringency scours bitter piney finish, coarsening sour bruised lemon musk.

(SLACK TIDE) AVALON AMBER ALE
As refreshing and cleansing as the Jersey Shore wave depicted on the label, Avalon remains a solid-bodied ale perfect with dinner. Roasted barleymalts thicken steadfast bitter hop aftertaste. Mighty fine brew manages to be both lean and filling.
