FORBIDDEN ROOT DIVINE MUD SERIES: HEAVY PETAL IMPERIAL STOUT

Bitchin’ botanical stout (with viscous yeast sinew) successfully unites sweet pecan roast and West African chocolate richness with wafting magnolia flower petals. Creamy brown chocolate continuance heightened by cacao nibs resilience, molasses-sapped bourbon sugaring and mild anise smear. Peat-y walnut, cola, hazelnut and hickory illusions regale pecan adjunct just beneath the mocha surface as dried-fruited black cherry, blackberry and blueberry seep into the mix. Ultimately smooth, easygoing and clean-watered despite heavy viscosity and full-bodied nature.

On tap at Ambulance, lovely Ku’a coffee-injected Imperial Stout arguably betters prestigiously original Speedway version with its newfangled coconut-toasted dark roast coffee richness and vanilla-creamed milk chocolate center. Cream n’ sugared coffee sweetness gains strength from fudged brownie subsidy, latent bourbon-burgundy luster and distant black cherry, blackberry and purple grape traces. A delightful sweet-toothed dessert treat.

CRICKET HILL RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT (2016/2018)

Well-detailed full body from 2016 small-batched Reserve Series brings bold dark-grained black chocolate richness to dry hop-charred coffee roast and bitter walnut sear while sustaining clean mineral water briskness. In recess, oats-dried molasses and mild vanilla beaning deepen black-malted mocha goodness while hints of dark rum, burgundy and black cherry waver. On tap at Biggie’s, 2018 tapped version retained creamily bittersweet dark chocolate roast heightened by sugared coffee, raw molasses, gooey anise and earthen hops.
