GREENE KING I.P.A. DRAUGHT BITTER

Lacey chestnut-hued English draught version succeeds despite initial light delivery pushing majority of flavor to the delicate finish. Atop crisp water flow, laid-back chocolate-mocha malts offer shades of blanched bitterness and debonair sweetness. Mowed hay and fresh cut wheat outline wispy hop guidance as subtle dark caramel and maple notes caress mildest coffee sourness mid-palate. Gentle giant could pass for lighter porter or busy brown ale.

(SKAGIT RIVER) SCULLER’S INDIA PALE ALE

Dramatic skeleton-labeled penny-coppered Halloween seasonal damn near competes with more chocolate-y hop-induced Ipswich I.P.A. (bettering similarly styled Maine brewpub stash quaffed on winter ’05 trip). Amazingly flamboyant floral bouquet, expansive orange peel bittering, and grapefruit-soured cider kick strengthen generous peach-apricot tang surrounding alcohol-bitten black currant dip. Sweet grain-malted finish softly settles in.

(ALVINNE) GASPAR ALE

Gaudy herbal hop resin too acridly phenol for alcohol-burnt orange peel bittering and lemony grapefruit rind souring entwining white peppered thyme-sage spicing of eccentric meringue-headed bronze-hazed India Pale Ale. Creamy vanilla-chocolate malting suffers pungent setback by dank basement mustiness and earthen barnyard funk, ravaging tertiary green apple tartness, dried peach tang, and vapid honeysuckle sweetness.
