On tap at Sooey’s BBQ in Nags Head, anonymously sessionable IPA lacks proper citric-hopped astringency and overall resilience. Light lemony grapefruit-orange spicing and dry wood tones fade quickly over meager white-breaded malting.
Spunky juicy-fruited overload gains creamy caramel malt sweetness alongside pine-needled citric hop bittering. Honeyed peach, mango, nectar and orange tang as well as candied lemon tartness pick up floral-spiced tingle. Will please session IPA drinkers and less restrictive hopheads.
Snickering misnomers include Imperial styling and ‘black’ hue, but not ‘sessionable’ appeal. Instead, this here’s a golden-strawed West Coast-styled India Pale Ale with tropical citra-mosaic hop bite and light pilsner malting. Pleasant yellow grapefruit tartness picks up lemony pineapple, mango, orange and tangerine tang. Light resinous pine bittering contrasts honeyed citrus sweetness.
Ridiculously appealing sessionable IPA offers judicious floral-perfumed fruit spicing and creamy caramel malting to moderately bitter pine-needled hop resin. Resilient red grapefruit, pineapple and navel orange tang backed up by equally juicy mango, peach, tangerine, cantaloupe, honeydew and lemon meringue illusions above biscuit-y wheat breaded spine. Arguably the best easygoing summertime session beer.
Pleasing 2015 trend towards more approachable and less bitter IPA’s continues with this ‘sessionable’ moderate-bodied ditty. Tamped-down herbal-citric hop astringency and mild pine bittering pick up lemony orange-grapefruit spicing. Good warm weather fodder now available year-round.
Sunny grapefruit tang leads the way for spicy floral-perfumed Mosaic hop tropicalia. Orange-bruised pineapple, nectarine, honydew, papaya and kiwi sweetness contrasts moderate piney bittering and weedy earthen resin. Syrupy spruce sugaring adds residual sweetening to rye-honeyed caramel malt base.
First released February 2014, easygoing moderation blends citric hop crisping with caramel-honeyed barley malting and modest floral spicing. Dried grass astringency lightly embitters yellow grapefruit, navel orange and pineapple tang. Well done but not quite essential in crowded IPA field.
On tap at Ambulance, dry Simcoe-hopped version (circa summer ’15) brings light citrus musk to botanical ginger spicing and juicy mango serenity. Subtle papaya-guava-passionfruit-kiwi tropicalia and mild butternut splotch muddled by waxy crayon grouting.
On tap at Eddie’s Roadhouse, “easy drinking proper hopper” best describes sessionable India Pale Ale. Bright yellow grapefruit vibe receives tart lemon zesting, wispy pineapple tang and light floral daub over grassy hop dryness.
Fine flagship offering (in a can) will please avid hopheads with its oily hop bittering, resinous pine tarring and brisk juniper berry pungency. Sharp grapefruit-peeled orange rind tang brightens all the musky bitterness. Wispy pineapple, peach, mango and mandarin orange tropicalia found in deep recess.
