WIDMER BROTHERS FALCONER’S IPA

Perfectly sessionable moderate-bodied India Pale Ale (with lighter stylistic piney hop bittering) ups the biscuit-y wheat cracker sugaring to compete equally against expectant pineapple-grapefruit-orange tang. Helles bock-like almond-pecan roast and marzipan-sweetened candied apple frisk take ancillary positions. Some minor phenol astringency deters bright citric finish, but not by much.

SMUTTYNOSE RHYE IPA

Utilizing brewers’ Finest Kind IPA recipe for a rich rye malted (instead of wheat) base while amping up the dry-hopped IBU’s, fine hophead delight retains juicy pineapple-peach-mango-cantaloupe-melon tang and bitter grapefruit-peeled orange rind succulence over crisply clean mineral water. Resinous pine-needled juniper berry bite contrasts ancillary perfumed floral sweetness at the honeyed rye spine.

LA CUMBRE ELEVATED IPA

Superb flagship IPA in a can adapts brisk West Coast fruiting for pine-spruced Colorado freshness. Pleasant pine-needled bittering serenely contrasts sugary crystal-malted citrus-juiced tropicalia. Everlasting hemp-oiled evergreen setting softly lingers, picking up grassy floral hop bouquet to elevate ripe pineapple, peach, pear, mango, tangerine and melon sweetness as well as lemon-dropped orange marmalade riffs. Botanical dandelion, rose and lavender nuances simmer below the balanced mix. An amazingly consistent and wonderfully debonair offering.

STONE 17th ANNIVERSARY GOTTERDAMMERUNG IPA

Intringuing, if not wholly original, Imperial India Pale Ale celebrates brewers’ 17th anniversary by utilizing classical pilsner malts and copious German hops to create a smoother, cleaner stylistic flavor profile. Dry-hopped wood lacquering glazes orange-peeled grapefruit, peach and pineapple moderation as well as zesty mango, passion fruit, guava and papaya tropicalia above honeyed rye malts. Ascending alcohol kick scours the frantic fruitful luster and mild perfumed florality.

CRICKET HILL LITTLE BIG IPA

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, sessionable hop-head moderation offers bitterer hop profile (and twice the IBU’s) than brewers’ Hopnotic. Nevertheless, this 2013 small batch India Pale Ale maintains a welcoming approachability perfect for skeptical fencesitters. Resinous dry-hopped spicing converges with serene orange-peeled grapefruit rind bittering above easygoing grain malting. Wafts of grass trimmings stay upon the nose.
