Though label’s picturesque bears on a brightly colored windowpane in a grapevine setting is a hoot, this is ultimately ineffective as either wheat ale or crossover blackberry-fermented fruity ale. Washed-out phenolic citrus astringency and solvent-like acidity diminish expectations of palest club soda-like spritzer. It simply doesn’t deliver what’s promised.

MAGIC HAT HOCUS POCUS ALE
SARANAC POMEGRANATE WHEAT
Likable ’07 limited edition gold-hazed amber uses pomegranate juice as catalyst to bring out slyly bittersweet lemony blueberry-boysenberry-juniper tartness above wheat-cracked honeyed oats spine. Ripe peach-apricot-cherry tang and juicy orange-tangerine pliability add auxiliary luster. Arguably as fine as Shmaltz’s He’brew Pomegranate Ale tasted one week before.
WILLOUGHBY WHEAT
(GOUDENBOOM) BLANCHE DE BRUGES WHITE WHEAT
Pale-clouded moderate-bodied white-wined wheat ale checks in with immediate clove-coriander spicing above fluctuant crystal malt assertion. Fizzy dry hop bittering overrides lemony orange-peach tartness. Light and fluffy for Belgian, but brisk quinine water crispness usurps bland finish while half-affirming tertiary tropical fruitiness.
GEORGE KILLIAN’S WILD HONEY
MAGIC HAT ODD NOTION HONEY ALE
Enigmatic winter-seasoned braggot-mead combination pairs enticing honeyed heather-jasmine sweetness with less expressive orange-peeled peach-tangerine tang. Temporal herbal-spiced chamomile tea bitterness and withered grassy bark-twig dryness counter maple-sapped malted wheat spine. Off-putting vegetal acridity and dank metallic sear nearly ruin lemony white wine bid.
