Golden blonde ale with natural strawberry flavor matching pungent berry aroma. But fruited aftertaste is not as sweet as the first swallow would indicate, growing stale over the course of a bottle. As is the case with all Pete’s ales, it’s way better on tap (where a maple-like residue tickles the senses).

PILSENER OF EL SALVADOR
Plain, simple pilsener with moderate barley sweetness, understated grain-hopped bitterness, and tart peach-grapefruit mist hidden below overwhelming carbonation. Zesty citrus pep deadened by swill water flow that puts it too close to cheap American macrobrews such as Schmidt’s and Black Label. Hopefully, you’ll think it’s a tad closer to Red Stripe upon further inspection.

RED HOOK TREBLEHOOK BARLEYWINE
Not-so ‘vigorously-hopped’ limited edition ’07 barleywine hides 9.8% alcohol thrust behind pleasing sweet Scotch frontage, IPA-like hop-embittered quince-apricot-cherry center, and syrupy malt usurpation. Candy apple glaze secures imminent floral-citric tang. Though thin-bodied, very approachable for lighter thirsts.
REISSDORF KOLSCH ALE
Murky fruit-wafted sourdough pungency overrides delicate sweet-spiced fizziness and floral-herbed restiveness softening easygoing pale-bodied moderation. Lemony apricot and banana trifle receives phenol hop restitution. Not far removed from a summer ale with its perky citrus spritz and passive wheat backdrop. Fine all-purpose brew for light-bodied thirsts.
RIDGEWAY INDIA PALE ALE
Bereft gold-cleared medium-bodied faux-IPA applies piney-hopped lemon rind bittering to wayward wheat wafer sweetness. Nasty phenolic finish disturbs clean water flow while fruity expectancy never materializes. Caught between a boring American IPA and its original peat-licked English version.
