Pale golden moderate body matches tart yellow-fruited dryness and demure apricot tang to fizzy lemon-lime sashay, but soapy malts deflect thin wheat proclivity at neutralized butternut finish. Lighter than traditional IPA’s that’d complete England to India journey during Colonial era.

BARREL HOUSE BOSS COX DOUBLE DARK I.P.A.
Bold scarlet-hued spruce-wafted full body with varied complexities makes for heady elixir. Harsh hop-charred spicing and metallic alcohol-burned bitterness cattycorner chewy cereal-grained caramel-chocolate malting up-front. At midst, sticky cotton-candied anise tenacity cushions red apple ripeness and sherry-burgundy-barleywine heft, overcompensating gooey cherry puree, rum raisin, and stewed prune illusions. Chestnut, hazelnut, and butternut fade in and out.
(BUTTERNUTS) SNAPPERHEAD I.P.A.
Cordial yellow-canned all-malt India Pale Ale plies buttery almond, sugared oats, and honeyed marzipan to zesty floral-hopped tangerine tang. Sweet hazelnut-almond reminder nips toasted barley base. Tinny corrosion doesn’t negatively affect biscuit-y finish. Unlike most (bottled) IPA’s, lacks pronounced wood chip burnt hop-spiced bittering.
DAVIDSON BROTHERS INDIA PALE ALE
Tenuous IPA lacks stylistic complexity and depth but retains crisp, clean template. Phenol-spiced red-fruited complacency and shrill orange-peeled pine-hopped astringency falter to dim cereal-grained wheat-honeyed backbone. Distant floral-dabbed peach-cherry-apple illusions receive weird sunflower-seeded herbal fungi nuance. Bland metallic finish worsens over time.
FLYING DOG DOUBLE DOG DOUBLE PALE ALE
Engrossing copper-toned double-hopped India Pale Ale cannot conceal astringent 10.5% alcohol volume and never skimps on strong whiskey warmth. Colossal pine needled citric-peeled bittering counterbalances sappy maple-spruce stickiness and brown sugared apple-pear-nectar sweetness up-front. Evergreen-freshened grassy-floral hops usurp sinewy honeyed malts to potentially harsh wood-lacquered vodka finish.
GREENE KING INDIA PALE ALE
Steadfast amber-hued English ale swirls stealth Scotch sweetness into butterscotch-butternut nicety and lightly embittered floral hops. Spoiled orange and green apple illusions peak through soft carbolic frisk. Those expecting traditional IPA template of smoked malts and tangible spicing may be puzzled but not disappointed.
KING & BARNES I.P.A.
LOST COAST INDICA INDIA PALE ALE
MILL CITY INDIA PALE ALE
PELICAN INDIA PELICAN ALE
Terrific floral hop nose informs smoked spruce-cedar wood tones while sweet yeast persistence echoes through crystal-pale malt median. Citric pineapple, grapefruit, and orange pith add tangy backend. Dryly bitter rosewood finish retains alcoholic luster for well-balanced, full-bodied golden-orange IPA.
ROCKY RIVER MAD WOLF INDIA PALE ALE
SIXPOINT BENGALI TIGER INDIA PALE ALE
Quaffed on tap at lower Manhattan’s d.b.a., hand-pulled rust-glowed cask conditioned smoothie offers piney yellow-fruited frontage assuaging floral daisy-rosebud waft and sweet spruce reminder. Soft Cascade-hopped ripple conveys dewy melon-mango-kiwi-papaya-pineapple-nectarine tang and secondary grapefruit acidity. Lovely lemon meringue fluff consumes zesty fruited finish.
