On tap at Shoreline Beverage, sunny lemon-peeled grapefruit rind bittering enhances pine-needled green hop char and withered juniper berry astringency. Surging pineapple, peach and pear sweetness brightens delicate floral bouquet while soft-watered minerality keeps the hop IBU’s in check so lighter palates could appreciate its sharp piney citrus styling as well.

On tap at Track 84, subtly complex fresh-hopped Imperial IPA made for consumption by April Fool’s Day 2013 (Batch #5). Strong piney citric vibe develops above resinous dry-wooded hops and pungent cannibis skunking. Grapefruit-orange peel bittering contrasts floral peach, pear, apple, watermelon, honeydew, pineapple, mango, guava and tangerine fruiting as well as brown-sugared caramel sweetness. Tingly carbolic prickle secures harvested hop freshness.

On tap at Julian’s Restaurant, glorious draught-only 2013 version (with 9% alcohol) brings bright citric spicing to brisk white-peppered hop bite and sugary caramel malting. Sharply pine-needled ruby red grapefruit bittering contrasts sunshiny tropicalia (lemony orange, pineapple, mango, papaya and tangerine illusions) as well as ripe red apple, brown pear and white apricot pleasantries.

Arguably Utah’s best beer. Its blackened hop char may upend the citric-peeled dried fruiting, but never overwhelms the rapturous caramel-burnt black chocolate creaming, dark-roasted coffee nuttiness and hemp-oiled Blackstrap molasses tarring. Ashen pine-sapped maple sugaring deepens the massive mocha onslaught as well as the recessive burgundy-wined black grape, green raisin and currant undertones.

Piercing piney citric brightness awakens prominent fusel alcohol burn of dry medium-full body. Heady wood-grained Simcoe-Amarillo hop bite reinforces juniper-licked orange and grapefruit peel bittering above slight metallic twinge. Juicy nectar, peach, melon and orange fruiting sweetens the load. Generous hop-head delight!

On tap at Rattle N Hum, brash hop-forward update of Singlecut Billy Half-Stack loads lemon-seeded orange peel bittering atop mild pine-spruced lacquer and brusque acetone solvency. Floral peach-tangerine tang brightens the corners and sugary crystal-caramel malts sweeten the backend. Another briskly sharp hop-head fave.

Despite Imperial tag and boastful “double the malts and hops” of Big Daddy IPA, sweet fruit-spiced overtones outweigh stylistic hop-forward grapefruit peel bittering for better approachability. Candied apple, honey nut and marzipan spread across the fruited plain, picking up tangy melon, peach, orange and tangerine juicing. Heightened 8.5% alcohol volume never gets above the sensational fruit-juiced flavor profile.

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, hybridized green tea-leafed version of lemon-sweetened Imperial IPA gains sweeter herbal sugaring and creamier malt penetration to counter bitterer citric-peeled tartness. Lemon verbena entry bulked up by ancillary orange-oiled pine nut, lemongrass, ginger, chamomile and eucalyptus illusions. Wispy blood orange, nectarine and apricot undertones flutter. Dependent upon one’s tolerance for green tea’s musky earthiness unsettling the fruiter aspects, it’s probably an acquired taste to the uninformed.

Only a tad bolder than sterling Racer 5 despite doubling down on the oily pine hop bittering. Sugary peach, pineapple, mango, guava and tangerine tropicalia contrasts moderate pine-needled grapefruit rind bite. Floral-spiced lemon zest further freshens its spruce-tipped citric fruiting above the buttery caramel malting. Tertiary red apple, brown pear and marmalade illusions play possum. Hopheads unite!

Solid medium-bodied India Pale Ale brings sharply resinous El Dorado hop oiling to brisk grapefruit-peeled blood orange bittering and sugar-caned pineapple juicing. Dry-spiced rye malts envelop citric freshness above mild biscuit-y spine.

Big bitter beer will please hearty hopheads with its pungent grapefruit peel bittering, resinous hemp-oiled hop char and harsh ethanol whir. Counteractive sugar-spiced floral respite fortifies ancillary nectarine, peach, apricot, apple and tangerine tang.

Well-rounded wild rice-sweetened Imperial IPA retains brisk pine-fruited essence typical of its insanely popular style. Grapefruit-peeled orange rind bittering contrasts tangy mango-papaya-tangerine tropicalia over dry citra-hops and sugared crystal malts.
