CHIMAY SPECIALE CENT CINQUANTE (150th ANNIVERSARY)

Elegantly detailed limited edition 150th anniversary celebrator proves to be as uniquely ambitious as brewers’ three year-round offerings. Based on Chimay Tripel (white label), its champagne-sparkled fruity bouquet sashays around an herbaceous pink peppercorn and lemongrass cluster. White grape, green apple, banana, pineapple, orange, mango and melon illusions receive tingly lemon-limed bittering that contrasts Chardonnay-buttered honey mead or cotton-candied marshmallow nuances. Black-peppered basil-thyme conflux registers below advertised orange-peeled coriander influence.

ANDERSON VALLEY BOURBON BARREL AGED BARNEY FLATS OATMEAL STOUT

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, limited edition barrel aged stout’s less adventurous and more subtle than anticipated. Wild Turkey bourbon influence brings forth only mild soft-toned honeyed caramel creaming and oaken vanilla tones that flash across soothing chocolate-smoked espresso mildness. Molasses-soaked cola nut, hazelnut and pecan nuances embellish the cocoa-malted dry bourbon finish.

OMMEGANG DUVEL RUSTICA

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, strong Belgian-styled golden ale emits raw-honeyed yeast spicing for sour lemon-rotted orange entry, ascending banana bubblegum tartness and ancillary cane-sugared peach tones. Fluctuant white-peppered clove and coriander seasoning pervades resinous floral-dusted hop rusticity. Chamomile tea hints waver. Not as richly flavored or alluringly aromatic as advertised, yet far from superficial.
