VICTORY PRIMA PILS

Perfumed floral-citrus aromatics, sharp nutty grain consistency, and extreme Noble-hopped pine-lacquered orange rind finish define excellent German-styled pilsner that’ll remind bitter hop-heads of a classic India Pale Ale. Gooey caramel malting sweetens syrupy peach-pear conflux, lemon-curried ambrosia tartness, and grapefruit-peeled apricot-tangerine regalia. Floral lavender-rosebud-sunflower wisp and dry grassy astringency complete world class pils.

WATNEY’S CREAM STOUT

Polite maple sap scent, rich burgundy palate, brown-sugared cocoa chalking, oncoming prune sourness, and roasted barley thickness consume savory lactose-aided deep brown-hued sipping stout. Some addictive characteristics reminiscent of Watney’s Red Barrel persist: blood-thickened mouthfeel; exquisite hop bouquet; and lusty caramel malts. Sweet milk chocolate creaminess soothes rather than dominates for an exceptional stout so heavily yeast-fermented and viscously full-bodied only the keg version could beat.

WEINHARD’S ICE ALE

The original Blue Boar brand mixes ‘classic hand-crafted ale with the crisp, smooth finish of authentic ice brewing.’ But this ain’t no quality brew, folks. Skunky malt aroma and cloudy pale hue mismatched against unexpected cloying nature similar to Rolling Rock (sans the creaminess and dank yeast finish). Serve only to novice ale dabblers.

WILD GOOSE PUMPKIN PATCH ALE

Lamentable limited ’06 release finds astringent Fuggle-hopped bittering and woody alcohol burn overwhelming expectant autumnal pumpkin theme of clear coppery dry body. Spicy pumpkin pie gloss fades considerably as moldy cooked vegetable funk weakens peppered clove and herbal tea illusions obscuring brown sugared cinnamon-nutmeg-ginger whir. Biscuit-y wheat backbone and squash-like finish need better profundity.
