(ROCKIES) SUNDANCE AMBER ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zamber aleJohn Fortunato

Subtle nut swell, mild mocha flutter, and muffled barley roast offer fragile frontage further debunked by murkily hopped phenol astringency.

(ROCKIES) SINGLETRACK COPPER ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zcopper aleJohn Fortunato

Musty dry-hopped copper-toned ale gains citric hop zest, toasted grain inertia and sweet cereal malt surge to offset overt fig frolic. Drab ester-y phenol finish spoils orange oil latency, barren marzipan snip, and piney dash.

(ROCKIES) PASS TIME PALE ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zpale aleJohn Fortunato

Casual wheat-cracked barley-flaked sweetness mellows to ancillary mocha midst, but minor diacetyl tinge lessens potential of sketchily hopped light-bodied simplicity.

(ROCKIES) MOJO INDIA PALE ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato

Arguably the best of Rockies’ brews, viscous amber-hazed IPA segues from perfumed honeysuckle nectar sweetness to thrusting citric hop bitterness, enveloping piney finish with orange-peeled grapefruit luster. Sweet cereal- grained cracked wheat center absorbs herbaceous snip, adding to fruited red ale-like sentiment.

(ROCKIES) HAZED & INFUSED DRY-HOPPED ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zpale aleJohn Fortunato

Serene pine forest waft matches bitter orange peel tang and floral hop zip of mannered dry-bodied pale ale. Discernible piney mouthfeel picks up earthen resin countering sugar cookie decoy as swarming plethora of grapefruit-ripened apricot-pear fruiting and ester-y green grape rasp perk up sweet ‘n sour lemon-limed red apple pucker.

(ROCKIES) BUFFALO GOLD PREMIUM ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zgolden aleJohn Fortunato

Perhaps closer to a mild sourdough-breaded lager, this swanky mineral-grained premium sells like crazy in serene Colorado foothills despite barren flavor profile. Sugar-malted corn syrup slurp and almond-toasted Challah breading overlaid by sharp lemon hop bitterness of sessionable working class ale.

ROCKHOPPER LAGER

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zpale lagerJohn Fortunato

Named after local Andes penguins, roughhewn pale-toned Chilean fades hop-grained corn malted astringency into barest wood burnt intonation, retaining no head or body to sulfuric finish.

(ROCKFORD) UGLY DOG ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zred aleJohn Fortunato

Not distinct, yet still better than Red Dog, Miller High Life, and Coors (or any homogenized, processed American brews). Maroon-hued light-bodied red ale with aromatic citrus spicing, tart stone fruiting, and sterile hop bittering finishes unobtrusively. Brewery defunct: 1998.

ROCKFORD RED ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zred aleJohn Fortunato

Roasted barley richness and bitter hop pungency entangle heavy caramel malting to firm lager-grained finish. Not as sweet-spiced as archetypal red ales, but frothy and bold enough for wide-ranging drinkers. Brewery defunct: 1998.

ROCKFORD INDIA PALE ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato

Thick maple-nut thrust consumes robust pale body. Reaping better hop bitterness, malt richness, and grain refinement than most competitors, well rounded IPA may lack distinction, but never spunk. Brewery defunct: 1998.

ROCKFORD GOLDEN LAGER

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zpale lagerJohn Fortunato

Cloudy moderate-bodied Czech-styled pale lager with barley-roasted malting accentuated by floral hops stays delicate, yet efficient. Brewery defunct: 1998.

ROCK CREEK NUTRAGEOUS BROWN ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zbrown aleJohn Fortunato

More like ‘hop-rageous’ with its heavily carbonated mouth-filling fizz, frothy tan head, sharp bite, and residual nuttiness. Floral hops disguise faded chocolate bitterness at depleted caramel-dipped finish.
