BREWDOG CHAOS THEORY

BREWDOG CHAOS THEORYRespectable ‘predictably random ale’ best suited as greenhorn crossover than rapturous hophead delight since medium-bodied IPA never distorts piney-fruited bitterness. Musk-y lacquer appropriation saddles spice-tingled red cherry, candied apple, cantaloupe, melon, peach, and pineapple sweetness as well as honey-sugared biscuit-y malting. Bittersweet orange and grapefruit zest plus diminutive floral bouquet round out busy Scot.

SCUTTLEBUTT GALE FORCE I.P.A.

SCUTTLEBUTT GALE FORCESimilar to Scuttlebutt Amber Ale, though a slight bit better and more resilient. Still, for hop-notched India Pale Ale, proper yellow-orange-fruited tang and piney bitterness lack while toasted cereal graining takes the lead. Phenol walnut-charred dryness gets exhaustive. For contrast, nominal butterscotch, pecan and candy apple nuances simmer through sugary almond-pasted marzipan sweetness.

FULL SAIL I.P.A.

FULL SAIL IPAFine burgundy-hued ruby red-highlighted medium body with fruity zing and piney nose retains zesty apple-apricot-peach-cherry tang and bittersweet fig-plum-date tartness above mild grapefruit peel bittering. Peat-smoked caramel-whiskey malts bring butterscotch, almond, and macadamia illusions to the party for well-balanced fruity dazzler.

(RUSSIAN RIVER) PLINY THE ELDER

PLINY THE ELDERRevelatory golden-hued medium-bodied Imperial IPA, named after naturalist philosopher, maintains silken flow despite creamy thrust. Cotton-candied caramel-crystal malts align with lemon-sugared red apple, brown pear, purple grape, apricot, and tangerine fruiting as well as pineapple, mango and passion fruit tropicalia. Mild grapefruit peel bittering illuminates pine needled floral hops securing perfectly balanced, highly celebrated West Coaster.

21ST AMENDMENT BREW FREE OR DIE I.P.A.

Famous San Francisco brewpub gets Cold Spring, Minnesota brewery to can its finest offering. Busy piney spruce swagger informs up-front pineapple-nectar sweetness, subsidiary apricot-peach-tangerine tang and tertiary cantaloupe-watermelon juiciness to creamy malt chocolate-y backdrop. Bitter grassy-hopped lemony orange-peeled grapefruit influence penetrates sly currant sway. Reserved hop profile may preclude hard-headed hop-heads, but the loss is truly theirs. Well integrated fruited malting and minor matchstick head nuance not far removed from Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

LONG TRAIL DOUBLE I.P.A.

Dry piney-fruited IPA lacks sufficient grassy-floral hop bite, but lively white grapefruit, red apple, peach, tangerine, and pineapple ripeness stick out above biscuit-y malt bottom. On tap, freshly squeezed citric nosing, mild floral-spiced orange-peeled grapefruit bittering, and pervasive alcohol-burned pine-sapped peach-pear-apple-cantaloupe fruiting (as well as tertiary mango-papaya tropicalia) seep into creamy caramel malting.
