GEORGE GALE CHRISTMAS ALE

Slightly turbid, rust-browned, non-spiced holiday ale regaled by corky single malt Scotch oeuvre, leathery peat-smoked earthiness, dehydrated orange tartness and vinegary white wine tannins. Dense prune dryness and fruited hop tang score mid-palate, but complacent finish dulled by diminished chocolate malt souring and dreary cocoa-chalked bitterness.

GEARY’S SUMMER ALE

Sharp grassy hop bite, cracked wheat subtlety, and bittersweet citrus ebb provide duskier pungency than most summery Kolsch brews. But heavy carbonation corrupts orange blossom, apricot, and grapefruit illusions for fatigued diacetyl finish, sabotaging fruited malt appeal, biscuit-y caramel hint, and herbal nip.

GEARY’S PALE ALE

Frothy amber-hazed ale with conspicuous sugary malts, sharp hops, and acrid alcohol pungency goes down easy. Watery texture has crisp frisk of Canadian ales, but squandered grains meander and weak caramel finish lacks creaminess. ’09 re-tasting: dark spice-hopped mildness, dry orange tartness and slight grapefruit bittering overcome cider-soured acidity.
