CARIB ROYAL EXTRA STOUT
Nicknamed “Lion Stout,” brown-bodied barleywine-like Caribbean backs sugary sweet soda-like flow with boorish malt roast and toffee stickiness. But instead of depending on traditional mocha-like stout character, its medicinally cloy finish comes up too lame to be the wild beast its moniker pertains to.
CAROLINA PALE ALE
Clear yellow-hued ale counters crystal malt sweetness with toasted hop dryness as soured floral yeast and negligible citric undertones provide mild IPA-like bitterness.
CASTA BRUNA
Dark ruby hue counters light-bodied appeal and soft carbolic fizz of middling pale ale. Pallid barley-roasted mocha entry enhanced by caramel-candied cherry souring, mild chestnut ridge, and resin-hopped herbal twinge. Too meek to compete with better stylistic competitors. Simplicity is its saving grace.
CATAMOUNT AMBER ALE
Slightly sweet and easy flowing, satisfying novice tastes with simple mineral graining, subtle hop bitterness, and soft mocha finish. Too watery and unassuming to be truly distinct. Note: in or around 2002, Harpoon Brewery of Boston bought the Catamount factory. Brewery defunct: 2002.
CERVEZA-AGUILA PILSNER
Friskily carbonated pale pilsner with dank malt overtones, salty corn murmur, bland barley strand, and unobtrusive nutty remnant pleasing to novices only.
(CHARLES WELLS) CREST SUPER PREMIUM LAGER
Stench-y malt liquor-like 10% alcohol flow absorbs funky fruited malts and lively hop surge, but nice berry-melon hints drop off as miring corn starch nature and sourly metallic finish evolve.
CHOUFFE ARTISANAL GOLDEN ALE
Complex blend of bitter-hopped curacao orange briskness, buttery white wine-like effervescence, and delicate floral spicing provides busy template for refreshing fluffy white-headed tawny ale. Billowing artisan water softens citric load. On tap, sour wheat-backed banana sweetness and mild lemon tang greet mint-y clove freshness.
(CIMES) YETI BLONDE ALE
Oaken-dried white grape esters reign mewled sourness upon honeyed orange-coriander web, languid peach tang and unripe fig stead of inconsequential French Alps brew. Spoiled citric tartness corrupts vinous center before appealing brandy and Chardonnay illusions strike a chord. Hard candied acidity undermines squandered herbal-floral nuance.
CLIMAX EXTRA SPECIAL BITTER
Wispily aromatic tangerine zesting prickled by spiced hop phenols as bright tropical fruiting serenades thinly sinewed butterscotch-yeast pleasantries juxtaposing smoky peat malting of dry bitter. Softly settling mocha finish punctuated by maple-cedar wood tones and ashen earthiness.
(CLIPPER CITY) WINTER STORM ‘CATEGORY 5’ ALE
Quite reserved coppery chestnut Double I.P.A. maintains dry nutty pine comb disposition and biscuit-y wheat backend. Toasted barley nosing picks up spiced hop tingle and trusty fructose sweetness on first sip. Subsequent grapefruit bitterness disguises minor acidity and sedate apple-melon-orange whim.
COLUMBUS 90 SHILLING ALE
Clear ruby amber Scottish-styled ale integrates smoked tobacco and black tea illusions with comely roasted caramel malt setting. Mild toasted hops simmer beneath smooth moderate body.
