SOUTHERN STAR PINE BELT PALE ALE

Bettering most lighter bodied pale ales with its full flavored profile, murkily rust-hazed Texan (in a can) offers crystal-malted cereal grain toasting and moderate piney hop bittering to delicately sugar-spiced grapefruit, pineapple and orange tang as well as zesty lemon twist. Crisp well-watered minerality provides clean base for brisk floral-fruited finish. Recommended to softer ale palates.

PIPEWORKS ZOMMELIER SMOKED WHEAT WINE

Walking a tightrope getting all the different adjuncts to adhere correctly makes this affluent wheat wine a durable recreational hybrid (with hidden 10% abv). “Brewed with spices,” its toasted black cardamom seasoning and black peppercorn snip provide a rice-wined sake affect before settling into oaken vanilla midst. Herbal Sauvignon tropicalia and creamy Chardonnay buttering tease the palate before honeyed nectar sweetens its dainty hibiscus-lotus-dandelion florality. Subtle smoked wheat tangent underscores dry alfalfa, whey and sorghum graining as well as grouty hop gunk.

PIPEWORKS COHEN’S STATE OF KIND WITBIER

Curiously unconventional hybridized witbier tosses mild hibiscus florality, tea-like chamomile herbage and honeyed wheat malting into strangely exotic mix that forsakes stylish orange-peeled coriander propensity for creative offshoot. Wafting floral nectar sweetness increases hibiscus-chamomile affect. Dirty earthen peat mossing shrivels up the subtle plum, prune and beet undertones. Advertised blueberry tartness needs sharper intensity.

PIPEWORKS POIVRE VERT SAISON

Uncommon saison puts a challenging spin on basic farmhouse ale. Best described as a liquified green salad intermingling delicate vegetable intricacies with pleasant citric effervescence, its refreshingly water-based cucumber cleanliness rises above celery-seeded green peppercorn remnants. A moderate Saaz hop bittering and sour lemon twist contrast the light green-peppered cucumber sweetness. Marvelous balance and complexity for such a unique offshoot.
