CARTON SS HIEF IMPERIAL PALE ALE

On tap at Poor Henry’s, heftier version of brewers’ renowned Boat Beer (masking heightened 8.4% ABV) emboldened by plentiful IPA-like citrus fruiting, grainier pale malt spine and powdered lupulin oils (instead of hop pellets). Lemony grapefruit zest and ancillary guava-papaya tartness grazed by resinous hemp dankness and delicate lemongrass herbage above doughy dry malting. Sunshiny summertime fare with a solid hop-grained redemption.

CARTON BALINATOR HOP-LESS DOPPELBOCK

Interesting (if not totally convincing) bock hybrid layers medium-roast Blue Moon coffee beans above coarsely dried-fruited peat malts, leaving sweet vanilla and dark chocolate tones in the lurch. Using green Bali coffee beans instead of dry hops, its subtle berry-cherry notions fade too quick while black licorice, cola nut and hazelnut illusions merely waver in an unbalanced mix that’ll satisfy coffee lovers only at the beginning.

CARTON FRENCH COFFEE IMPERIAL CREAM ALE

On tap at Beef Trust, frothy whipped cream head settles atop milk-sugared French roast coffee sweetness of orange brandy-barreled Regular Coffee derivation. Soothing Grand Marnier illusions promote sharp citrus bruise and mild grape tannins to envelop vanilla-dipped cappuccino, caramel latte and crème de cacao riffs. Just a tad too liqueur-sweet for perfection, but a wonderful brandy nightcap alternative nevertheless.
