Steadfast sugar malt drift harbors cotton-candied jellybean nicety for green-canned moderate-bodied pils. But minimal grain backbone slides precociously.
DUKE’S DODGER HATOR
Funky smellin’ spiced malts affect compressed chaffed wheat palate of buttery tan-headed seasonal bock. Less subdued than same brewer’s Big Ass Beer, finishing with fresh hay-parched dried orange pucker. Interestingly dry-bodied tributary to former Dodgers baseball great Duke Snyder.
DUPONT BIERE DE MIEL ALE WITH HONEY
Pour slowly or pesky carbonation will overwhelm impressively balanced blend of floral-hopped apple-grape tartness, creamy caramel malting, and protracted barnyard-dried herbal spicing. Cotton candy mouthfeel absorbs delicate adjuncts. Despite its reference on the label, ‘honey’ is relegated to minor backup role. Like a fine Chardonnay, sweet-buttered 8% alcohol treat goes down like silk and shows endless character.
(EDENTON) KING DAVID’S RED ALE
Lively rust-copper Irish-styled ale contrasts spicy hop bitterness with cracked wheat, caramel malts, and honeyed cornmeal for medium-bodied joyance. Brewery defunct: 2006.
EINBECKER PREMIUM PILS
Swampy crystal malting spikes off-dry floral-hopped lemon rind bittering before getting relegated by watery soaping. Tart apple and white grape fruiting lifts otherwise tinny finish.
ELM CITY CONNECTICUT ALE
Strong mineral grain waft and sharp barley-hopped astringency stand out. Peculiar marshy sweetness invades foamy caramel creaminess at crystalline malt finish. Brewery defunct: 1999.
ENDURANCE PALE ALE
Bottled by Mercury Brewing, this well hopped citric-embittered pale body retains lemon rind, orange peel, and unripe grapefruit-peach tang deepening raw-honeyed medicinal stipulation, long-lasting black currant resolve and coarse coal aftertaste. Metallic oxidation tucked beneath hay-grass appeasement.
ESTES PARK SAMSON STOUT
Fruited medium-bodied stout with cola-like flow softer and less assertive than expected. Lackadaisical coffee nut influence depletes weak mocha finish. Inconsequential berry nut meander lingers beneath.
(FARSONS) CISK LAGER
Decent light-bodied bottom-fermented pale-strawed Maltese lager (with billowy white head) retains miserly malt liquor aroma, dank oily maize dryness, and roughhewn cereal-grained innuendo. Soft lemon lime core overcomes vegetal snip. For low budget refugees.
FISH TALE POSEIDON’S IMPERIAL STOUT
Weighty 10% alcohol content happily hidden behind fantastic array of port, burgundy, and bourbon illusions as oak-aged burnt wood chip thicket caresses prune, chocolate, and cocoa cluster. Oncoming ashy dryness counters thick syrupy nature, allowing busy mocha finish to increase its extremely sweet maple serration.
