WEYERBACHER TARTE NOUVEAU SESSION SOUR

On tap at Ambulance, loosely defined Berliner Weiss brings tart lemon-soured pucker to the fore above musty barnyard-dried straw wheat leathering. Vinous white-wined cider acidity, sharp green apple pucker, oaken cherry snip and mild peach-mango caress pick up salty limestone acridity. Sessionable citric-soured moderation works as stylish crossover for lighter thirsts previously apprehensive about ‘wild ale’ styling.

TWO ROADS ROAD JAM ALE W/ RASPBERRIES & LEMONGRASS

Quaint pinkish amber wheat ale “brewed with raspberries and lemongrass” receives subtle pale-malted wheat penetration. Tart raspberry pungency picks up wispy red grape, cranberry and gooseberry illusions while light lemongrass herbage stays far beneath the fading fruited surface. Seltzer-watered phenol hop fizz depletes spicy raspberry finish. On tap at Poor Henry’s, fluffy foamed head aerates soft lime-soured raspberry rasp and light woodruff syruping over delicate white wheat bed.

(BLUE MOUNTAIN) BARREL HOUSE LOCAL SPECIES ALE AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS

Incomplete Belgian-inspired moderation needs deeper flavor profile to work as “barrel-aged American-hopped experimental” hybrid. Well-watered minerality soothes white-peppered Belgian yeast spicing, dry farmhouse-like barnyard funk, wild oats rusticity and grassy hay astringency. Coriander-spiced orange tang, subtle lemon zest fizzle, sugared rum tease and light herbal notions could be pushed forward in the mix. Lightly charred White Oak bourbon influence lacks resolve.

(FLYING DOG) COUNTER CULTURE ALE

Valiant hybridized pale ale utilizes mildly plied agave nectar and lime peel adjuncts to help differentiate easygoing light body from more ‘hop-forward’ varietal. Instead of usual citric-heightened hop profile, toasted biscuit-like Munich malting leads the way alongside subtle tobacco crisping, polite coffee roast, brown tea sedation and wayward nuttiness. Dry-grained hop toasting reminiscent of ESB styling.

ALESMITH X

On tap at Jimmy’s No. 43, splendid soft-toned Extra Pale Ale allows mild dewy musk to sidle delicate crystal-malted honeyed tea sedation, mineral-grained earthiness and reedy hop resin. Subtle lemony orange-grapefruit wisps stay light on the tongue above biscuit-y malt spine. Refreshingly crisp.

MOODY TONGUE CARAMELIZED CHOCOLATE CHURRO BALTIC PORTER

Plentiful porter meshes dark-roasted Oaxacan chocolate with bourbon-licked Madagascar vanilla and sugary dough-fried churro influence, picking up wet cedar dankness by caramelized chocolate-coffee finish. Brown chocolate midst sweetens cinnamon-spiced toffee nuttiness and dark cocoa waver while contrasting moderated hop char. Expansive flavor profile not fully integrated, but good enough for endearing dessert treat.
