Ripe fig and raisin adjuncts enjoin burgundy-wined black cherry, prune and banana fruiting above mocha-spiced molasses bread sweetness. Dark Belgian candi syrup thickens the mocha fruited frontage.
On tap at Andy’s Corner Bar, tropical version of King Gambrinus tickles the fancy with moderate mango, pineapple and watermelon adjuncts draping sour lemon-candied tartness as well as wispy hibiscus-chamomile herbage. Not quite as convincing as the King, yet mildly enticing for fruit ale lovers.
Elegant oak-aged brown ale successfully expands upon Free Will’s Coffee Oatmeal Brown Ale with yummy rum dousing. Rich tawny-browned full body adds coffee beans to molasses and cane sugar while aging in Caribbean rum barrels. Mellow spiced rum warmth serenely sweetens persuasive dark-roast coffee overtones and polite whiskey snip. Ancillary black chocolate, dark cocoa and pina colada illusions swing by the molasses-sapped oats spine of rummy dessert treat.
On tap at Ambulance, stylishly moderate Cascadian Dark Ale sidles charcoal-burnt dark chocolate and black coffee overtones with dry Citra-hopped grapefruit, orange and lemon tang plus charred pine remnant above dry oats spine. Less pronounced bitterness will draw in softer palates.
On tap at Growler & Gill, well-balanced moderate-to-medium body guides floral-perfumed fruit bouquet above dank piney hop bittering and herbal restraint. Lemony grapefruit, orange, pineapple and peach tang picks up hard-candied tartness at easygoing sugar-spiced citrus finish.
On tap at Growler & Gill, nutty hybridized India Pale Ale provides Blackstrap molasses adjunct for bitter “hop mayhem.” Black pepper-spiced brown chocolate and cocoa malting gains slight walnut sear above scorched earthiness.
On tap at Andy’s Corner Bar, soured oak-aged medium body layers wild brettanomyces funk upon bright IPA-like grapefruit and orange tang as well as salted grape esters and moderate citric hop bittering. Mild mango-clementine and tangerine illusions flutter by.
On tap at Ambulance, easygoing Imperial IPA-styled moderation offers polite pineapple, orange, grapefruit and mango tang to resinous piney hop bittering.
On tap at Growler & Gill, salted lemon juicing and tart tropical fruiting gain honeyed malt sweetness to contrast musky piney hop resin. Candied grapefruit, passionfruit and pineapple tartness backs up zesty lemon tang.
Streamlined 2016 version of Harpoon’s IPA features ‘hoppy, floral, crisp’ tagline. Easygoing floral-hopped orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple and peach illusions pick up minor acidic astringency and fresh-cut grassiness to contrast light sugar spicing.
“Massively dry-hopped Crimson IPA” celebrates music and arts education program in brewer Greg Koch’s hometown with great results. Juicy grapefruit, orange and pineapple tang gains lightly spiced caramel toasting to contrast lingering Mosaic-Cascade-Amarillo hop bittering (and vodka-like whim). Beneath, crisply clean spruce and pine tones provide evergreen freshness for up-front tropical fruiting as well as apple, cherry and pear subsidies.
