(KEOKI) KAUA’I GOLD

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zgolden aleJohn Fortunato

Embodying meritorious simplicity, this medium-bodied cereal-grained ale aims its toasted barley-oat frontage and ancillary almond-macadamia caress towards sunny citric ambience. A light whiskey snip augments cracked wheat spine to creamy butterscotch finish.

KEO PREMIUM LAGER

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zlight lagerJohn Fortunato

Cold filtered off-dry lager opens with soured yeast splurge and leathery horsehide penetration as peppery hops perk up moderate-bodied resin grain finish. Similar to politely embittered American harvest wheat beers.

(KENNEBUNKPORT) OLD THUMPER EXTRA SPECIAL ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-ZesbJohn Fortunato

Locally popular reddish-hued bitter-wafted Scottish-styled (?) ale with heavily malted grain assertiveness. Strong, thick, but indistinct – a casual pleasure of passing interest later brewed by nearby Shipyard.

(KENNEBUNKPORT) MYSTIC SEAPORT PALE ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zpale aleJohn Fortunato

Delicate straw-hued pale ale lacks assertive crispness of better dry brews. Lean hop flow, sugary malt sweetness, and sludgy dark grains may not suit seasoned drinkers. Lingering Band-Aid aftertaste unsettling.

(KENNEBUNKPORT) MOOSE BROWN ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zbrown aleJohn Fortunato

Cool looking moose-with-barrel graphics on label may be only distinctive character of this simple ale. Light chocolate souring and muted hop bitterness soften palate to lightweight mocha malt finish. Nevertheless, rednecks and couch potatoes will like its casual splendor.

KELER LAGER

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zlight lagerJohn Fortunato

Grain-laced water-based lager nearly vanquishes sweet yeast elegance. Gentle wheat sweetness lingers to moderate pale malt finish for a classy little Spanish treat.

KEEGAN ALES OLD CAPITAL GOLDEN ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zgolden aleJohn Fortunato

Smooth straw-hued moderate body brings dried orange souring and green apple tartness to the fore. Spicy lemony grapefruit midst punctuated by peppery hop bitterness, sugary malt sweetness, and slight herbal-lemongrass lilt, but coarse malt liquor-like mustiness and cracked corn astringency nearly ruin rustic lawnmower fare.

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zimperial stoutJohn Fortunato

Sumptuously creamier version of Keegan’s Mothers Milk Stout pleats dry black chocolate frontage with brown-sugared vanilla sweetness and bitter hop-charred oats toasting. On tap, rich espresso theme (provided by Muddy Cup coffee) mildly embitters milk chocolate, black coffee, and tar-like molasses illusions further.

KEEGAN ALES HURRICANE KITTY INDIA PALE ALE

January 1, 2009Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato

Sumptuous coppery bitter brings initial spice-hopped lemon-orange peel zest and grapefruit souring to full-on pine needle mouthfeel before underlying caramelized pale-crystal malts adjoin toasted biscuit spine. Turning sweeter with each passing, as baked apple illusion and floral adjuncts overtake receding citric tartness.
