On tap at Hoover’s, weak pumpkin-spiced barleywine lacks descriptive stylistic diversity and becomes arid. Pumpkin pie sweetness and brown-sugared cinnamon toasting lost to sharp gin-licked orange rind bittering. Wispy ginger, nutmeg and allspice reminders need better resonance.
(POINT) WHOLE HOG PUMPKIN ALE – 2020
Sharp cinnamon spicing paces less enthusiastic 2020 version of brown-sugared pumpkin pied libation. A tad slick compared to the triumphant 2012 original, its cinnamon-nutmeg-allspice alacrity still maintains a sweet distinction, and the spiced orange tang’s a nice touch, but the carbolic fizziness retains a certain aridity.
CLIMAX 25TH ANNIVERSARY BARLEYWINE
25th anniversary barleywine (with well disguised 11% ABV) resonates with toffee-spiced brown chocolate sweetness topping nutty dried fruiting and dewy peat moisture (possibly from utilizing an experimental hop). Caramelized rum cake, brown-sugared fig and raisin cookie illusions plus apple-bruised red grape snips add further pleasantries.
CLIMAX BLOOD ORANGE IPA
Teeming with blood orange tanginess and massive tangerine juiciness, hybridized IPA gains light pine lacquered hop stickiness to boost sourly hard candied tartness. Thick tongue-coated tangerine-orange resilience never relents.
FIFTH HAMMER MANGOCONUT SOUR ALE WITH MANGO & COCONUT
On tap at Draught Industries, salted mango souring overwhelms lactic coconut milking of tropical medication. Acidic mango tartness gains mild guava-gooseberry pucker as well as spritzy lemon lime juicing – but coconut adjunct falters.
FIFTH HAMMER TROUBLESOME JELLYFISH INDIA PALE ALE
On tap at Draught Industries, zestful chartreuse-yellowed NEIPA bestows lemon-limed grapefruit bittering, juicy peach-pineapple-mango tartness and briskly prickled pine needling upon creamily lactic milk-sugared vanilla sweetness, leaving sedate floral herbage at its back end.
BELL’S DOUBLE TWO HEARTED ALE
Containing twice the Centennial hops as its forbearer, alcohol-fueled Imperial IPA prickles the tongue with gracious citrus bittering, sweet floral-perfumed hop serenity and pungently dank pine resin. Polite yellow grapefruit, navel orange and pineapple bittering contrasts tangy peach-tangerine-cherry sweetness succinctly above doughy pale malt breading as mild brandy-wined ethyl alcohol fervor increases. Recommended.
SLOOP SABRO BOMB NEIPA
On tap at Draught Industries, tropical Sabro hops embrace pina colada-cocktailed orange creamsickle dessert treat. Mild orange-spiced vanilla creaming sweetened further by rummy coconut-pineapple juicing while peachy passionfruit-guava-gooseberry souring picks up green grape tannins and bitter yellow grapefruit enticement in lactic yogurt-milked setting of bustling New England-styled IPA.

On tap at Draught Industries, juicy citrus onrush of eccentric NEIPA gains buttery vanilla-creamed orange Creamsickle sweetness contrasted by dank grassy-hopped hemp oiling and waxy fennel soaping over oats-sugared white wheat breading. EQUILIBRIUM MASS X ACCELERATION IMPERIAL IPA
On tap at Draught Industries, soft-toned ‘juicy elixir’ caresses mild orange-peeled grapefruit bittering with salty mango-guava tropicalia and tart lemon custard tartness over lactic vanilla creaming for ‘melon-flavored gummy bear’ knockoff. Brisk citrus-spiced Mosaic hops counter piney herbal Amarillo hops in IPA showdown.
LONE EAGLE NEW ENGLAND CHOWDAH INDIA PALE ALE
On tap at Hoover’s, sharp floral-daubed citrus tang rides atop grassy hop astringency and sugared pale malts splendidly. Bittersweet orange-peeled yellow grapefruit sunshine gains vibrant pineapple-peach-tangerine subtlety as well as musky pine resin.
