FAIR STATE SAISON DREI
“Rustic” saison brings stylish citric-soured farmhouse yeast funk to buttery French-breaded sourdough bottom, picking up dry herbal swerve. Sour-candied lemon pittance, coriander-spiced mandarin orange snip and white pinot grigio nuance waver beside barnyard hay-straw acridity.
FAIR STATE CROMULENCE
Intricately refreshing Berliner Weisse brings musty lactobacillus acidity to affluent lemon-rotted orange zest, sour yogurt spurt and dry saltine crisping. Funky farmhouse soiling adds musky leathering to tannic green grape, crabapple, passionfruit, raspberry, plantain and banana subsidies as well as white wheat base. Ratebeer’s Guerde rightly picked up dijon mustard illusion.
SURLY HELL LAGER
Not a particularly popular or convincing beer style since the musty pilsner malt breading and sourdough-skunked zwickel yeast musk defining this beloved Midwestern helles lager will put-off sweet-toothed imbibers (like Heineken oft-time does). Lemon-rotted sourness keeps floral-perfumed whim and metallic sheen at bay. Not a personal fave, but enjoyed by many German-influenced beer geeks.
MAGNIFY LOW VISIBILITY
On tap at End Of Elm, ‘uber juicy’ medium body allows sour lemon-seeded yellow grapefruit tang to invigorate mild floral-perfumed hop prickle while deepening dry wood tone. PEEKSKILL NYPA PALE ALE
On tap at Ambulance, crisply clean moderation offers raw-honeyed pale malting to brisk Mosaic-Citra hop tropicalia. Sharp yellow grapefruit prominence picks up pine-needled oak dryness as wispy mango-pineapple-orange subsidy gains foothold.
TROEGS SOLID SENDER ALE
Refreshingly familiar middle-of-the-road pale ale brings relaxing orange-peeled yellow grapefruit bittering to juicy cantaloupe-honeydew-nectarine-mango tang and grassy floral-spiced Cascade-Mosiac hops. Easygoing tropical fruiting sits atop muted caramel malt base and mildly herbal white peppering.
RODENBACH CARACTERE ROUGE
On tap at End Of Elm, rustic oak-dried sour ale (posing as a lactobacillus-affected Flanders red) tosses macerated cranberry, raspberry and cherry skins at vinous lemon-limed green grape pungency above musty earthen barnyard acridity. Oaken vanilla phenols seep into piquant red-fruited wining, sharp cider subsidy and balsamic vinegaring. Tertiary lingonberry, boysenberry and red currant illusions fortify sharply sour-candied cherry, raspberry and cranberry adjuncts at berry-wined finish.
BAYERISCHE BAHNHOF LEIPZIGER LAVANDULA JUNIPERUS GOSE
On tap at Ambulance, adventurously hybridized gose brings botanical juniper-spiced lavender, angelica-rooted orange flowering and light pimiento peppering to stylish coriander salting. Subsidiary orange-candied tartness, lemon-limed gooseberry pucker and lilting rosé wining stay below the busy surface near the sour wheat base.
NESHAMINY CREEK TRAUGER PILSNER
On tap at Ambulance, well-defined German pilsner offers raw-grained oats, maize and wheat desiccation to assertive grassy hop astringency and soured herbal lemon spritz above saltine cracker-like malts. But skunked yeast musk and barnyard hay-straw acridity may be off-putting to those unfamiliar with dry Bohemian-styled pils.
CARTON BREWING DOES IT AGAIN WITH CHURRO FLAVORED ELIXIR AND WEEDY BLUNT KNOCKOFF
CARTON CAFE Y CHURRO
