DEEP RIVER DOUBLE DON WATERMELON LAGER

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zfruit lagerJohn Fortunato
Easygoing watermelon-infused lager retains pallid fruit-spiced tartness over soft hop-fizzed white bread spine. Jolly Rancher-like sweet ‘n sour watermelon flavor melts down as lackluster cranberry, cherry and lemon snips fail to fill the gaps.

NO-LI WRECKING BALL IMPERIAL STOUT

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zimperial stoutJohn Fortunato

‘Intense’ full-bodied dark ale takes black chocolate roast up pine charred barley-hop trail leading to coffee bean-embittered Blackstrap molasses finish. Heavy mocha influence hides latent dried-fruited nuances.

BOTTLETREE IMPERIAL RED ALE

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zimperial red aleJohn Fortunato

Deviously malleable Imperial Irish Red Ale closer to nut brown ale or mocha porter. Sweet brown chocolate entry picks up dark-roasted barley roast over sugary toffee malts as well as pine nut, hazelnut, chestnut and pecan nuttiness. Wispy raisin, plum and black cherry snips fade fast.

TRIANGLE INDIA PALE ALE

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato
Ambiguous canned IPA (a.k.a. Revolution IPA) downplays stylistic hop bitterness for more approachable, less specific flavoring. Faint floral citric spicing depleted by gnarly petro-fueled alcohol burn. Phenolic lemon-oiled grapefruit and orange musk picks up timid wood pining above fleeting bread crumb-like pale malting.

(CRAZY MOUNTAIN) MOUNTAIN LIVIN’ PALE ALE

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zpale aleJohn Fortunato

Sessionable hot summer night canned ale maintains herbal hop-forward aggressiveness and pallid citric niche. Rye-dried back end needs deeper penetration.

(MOTHER EARTH) SECOND WIND PALE ALE

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zpale aleJohn Fortunato

Easygoing sessionable canned pale ale with pungent pale malting, soured citrus fruiting and spritzy carbolic luster stays refreshingly light-bodied. Grassy-hopped vegetal spell allows crisp celery, fennel and carrot nuances to sidle subtle herbaceous nip.

(MOTHER EARTH) SUNNY HAZE HEFEWEIZEN

July 25, 2013Beers A-ZhefeweissJohn Fortunato

Dank straw-cleared canned German wheat ale suffers from funky compost waft, rotten orange musk and metallic snip. Soured lemon spritz overruns subdued banana-clove expectancy and alkaline acidity ruins bubblegum finish.

FIRE MOUNTAIN STEAM FIRED STOUT

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zdry stoutJohn Fortunato

Frantic dark-roasted chocolate malting inundates smoked molasses bittering, fudgy cookie dough sweetness and toasted oats sugaring. Crude hemp-oiled hop bittering deepens the dry cocoa-powdered finish.

FIRE MOUNTAIN BOGART NORTHWEST IPA

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato

Sharp hop-spiced fruiting brightens as brisk orange-peeled grapefruit rind bittering ascends. Morris Otter malt sugaring and tangy apple-nectarine-tangerine juicing contrast wintry pine needling. Fresh-watered mineral graining provides crisp, clean base.

STARPOINT SURFIN’ BUDDHA IPA

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato

Docile caramel-roasted piney fruiting allows lighter thirsts to crossover to bolder style. Juicy pear, apple, peach and marmalade fruiting stays on equal footing with expectant orange-peeled grapefruit rind bittering. In the backdrop, spruce-tipped citric hops contrast cocoa-nibbed chocolate malting.

STARPOINT DUH! DOUBLE RYE IPA

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zindia pale aleJohn Fortunato
Sunny grapefruit-peeled orange juicing brightens pine-needled hop spicing to ample rye-wheat bottom. Refreshing peach, pineapple, nectar and honeydew undertones saddle the zesty citric finish. Insistent hop bittering stings the tongue.

(OLDE HICKORY) HICKORY STICK STOUT

July 25, 2013Beers A-Zdry stoutJohn Fortunato

Dry hickory-smoked pungency absorbs dark-roasted mocha malting. Bitter black chocolate and coffee rampage gains tar-like hop oiling and ashen charcoal acridity. But watery coffee-roasted espresso finish loses body and texture after a few sips.
